The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is my perfect everyday blush. Here’s why.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Bliss.

When Rare Beauty launched in September, I was instantly drawn to the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush out of all the products.

Honestly, I don’t often follow makeup launches because it takes me so long to finish makeup products I already have. But when Selena Gomez’s beauty line launched, I had been wanting to add a finger-friendly blush to my everyday makeup rotation for some time (the less brushes I need to use in the morning, the better!).

So, I took myself to Sephora and headed straight to the Rare Beauty display, excited to pick up the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush.

What does Rare Beauty stand for?

  • Empowering others to feel confident in their own skin.
  • Creating high-quality formulas designed with chemists and dermatologists.
  • Fostering inclusivity with 48 shades of their foundation and concealer.
  • Supporting mental health services through the Rare Impact Fund with a goal to raise $100M in 10 years to give back to local, national and global mental health organizations.
  • Starting a conversation around accessible design in beauty products – the foundation, concealer and blush are designed to make it easy for people with limited hand mobility to easily open the packaging.

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush formula

The blush comes in four matte shades and eight dewy shades. I went for one of the matte shades because my skin is combination and I like my makeup to feel a little more “set.” I chose Bliss, a perfect nude pink for my light skin with neutral undertones.

The formula is incredibly light-weight and easy to blend. Once you swipe it on the back of your hand with the doe-foot applicator, it feels like a silicone-y serum that dries down to an almost powdery finish once blended. It does set pretty quickly, so you have to work fast once it’s on your skin!

Keep in mind this blush is quite pigmented, so a little goes a long way. Start with a pea-sized dot, and build up from there. I’ve heard some of the deeper/brighter shades being even more pigmented.

My favourite way to apply this blush is first on the back of my hand, then dabbing a soft, dense brush into the product on my hand. Then I stipple it on my cheeks and use my foundation/concealer brush to blend out the edges, or dust a loose powder along the edges to blend it seamlessly with the rest of my makeup.

Does it last on your skin?

Yes, it lasts quite well. I typically put on my blush at 8:30 a.m. if I’m wearing makeup that day. The blush fades ever so slightly throughout the day, but I still see that healthy flush of colour when I go to take off my makeup at 9 p.m.

What about under a mask?

This blush holds up surprisingly well under a mask. Because it dries down to a powdery finish, it doesn’t slip and slide when something touches it.

If you’re wearing a mask for over an hour, it will smudge a bit as any blush would. But for errands and occasional mask use, you’ll have no problem!

How does it wear over acne?

Wearing pigmented blush became tricky territory for me when I started getting breakouts and redness on my cheeks. What I appreciate about this formula is that it dries down beautifully, allowing you to dab extra concealer over blemishes if needed without slipping and sliding everywhere.

When I have redness or breakouts on my cheeks, I’ll spot cover with concealer after applying the blush. Works like a charm!

I show a detailed step-by-step application in this IGTV, including how to cover my blemishes after.

What have you tried from Rare Beauty?

I’m eyeing their Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation next because of how lightweight and serum-y it is. I actually don’t have a foundation in my collection right now because the couple that I had have expired during quarantine…. so this might be my next product to purchase!

I love how reasonably priced the products are, especially for a line sold exclusively at Sephora. The liquid blush is $26 CAD, and the foundation is $38 CAD. Definitely pricier than drugstore products, but on the lower end compared to other makeup brands found at Sephora!
